Redemption of a Dogg
Snoop Dogg, known for his legacy in rap music, known for his legacy as a television and film personality, known for his legacy as a radio personality has now stepped to the stage in a totally new fashion. In what you my call a off-off-off Broadyway musical Snoops debuts in his first and very own theatrical performance; Redemption of a Dog presented by Je’Caryous Johnson & Snoop Dogg.
The show features Snoop Dogg himself, recipient of four Grammy Nominations, Eric Benet, Demetria McKinney of ‘House of Payne’ and ‘The Ricky Smiley Show’, Omar Gooding of Baby Boy, Family Time and Smart Guy, Tamar Braxton of The Braxtons, American Idol Finalist, Latoya London and comedian Lil JJ of the Nickelodean television series ‘Just Jordan.
So I caught up to the production on it's leg of it's tour in Oakland California where it was being featured at the famed Paramount Theater. The house was packed and filled with a variety of Snoop Dogg fans. You can even see Snoop’s friendship with Martha Stewart drew some of her fans to the show. Snoop has definitely crossed over.
The story is a loose representation of Snoop’s life itself and how the decisions in his life contributed to the consequences he faces later in life. Snoop’s performance is “all Snoop” with a surprisingly pleasant comedic side that keeps you laughing throughout the show. And of course with vocal powerhouses like Tamar, Demetria, Latoya, and Eric you can be sure the stage was filled with awesome vocal performances that’ll make you toes curl.
The redemption of a Dogg is both entertaining and meaningful with a message that speaks to anyone wrestling between stardom and remaining God’s faithful servant. Snoop continues to show is evolution as a father, husband, and now as a child of God. If you are a fan of Snoop’s “Keep it Real” take on life then you’ll love the Redemption of a Dog.
