US 2026 World Cup Bid gets endangered by Donald Trump
The US Soccer fans who had eagerly been hoping for a “slight return” will now have to wait for some time to check if President Donald Trump’s statement had been in violation of a strict FIFA code. Up till now, THE US Soccer Federation had been campaigning in collaboration with Canada and Mexico on the North American Bid in order to host privileges.
Donald Trump’s statement (A tweet on twitter):
The U.S. has put together a STRONG bid w/ Canada & Mexico for the 2026 World Cup. It would be a shame if countries that we always support were to lobby against the U.S. bid. Why should we be supporting these countries when they don’t support us (including at the United Nations)?
A reply was given by FIFA which pointed towards the general rule book. This reply is a statement issued in response to the public endorsement (Trump’s endorsement)
“As a general rule, we cannot comment on specific statements in connection with the bidding process."
"We can only refer to the FIFA Regulations for the selection of the venue for the final competition of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and in particular to the Bid Rules of Conduct incorporated therein."
This statement up till now is not referred as an accusation, but just in case there is a change in the bid and it tends to fall down, then we all know where it would point.
