Story and interview by Matthew Shack
Bria Myles is a deep chocolate brownie so be very careful, dessert lovers.
Why? (Ok..I'll tell you, but keep this one on the DL.)
In the history of Romantic Mythology, "chocolate" is traditionally characterized as a potent aphrodisiac.
Consumption of chocolate releases chemicals in the brain, which produce feelings of pleasure in the human body.
Chocolate is VERY addictive and although it is legal, its grasping effects are surprisingly similar to the drug, opium.
On the flip side, recent studies have also suggested that dark chocolate may possess certain beneficial elements on human health.
Hmmmm....are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Bria Myles officially "melted" on the scene in the Kanye West/Rhymefest video, "Brand New" in 2005.
You've seen her in Nelly Furtado’s "Promiscuous Girl" feat.Timbaland and in the The Clipse feat. Pharrell video, "Mr. Me Too".
She was the principal model in Twista’s "Girl Tonight" video, feat. Trey Songz.
She hosted the 2006 Ne-Yo BET Awards Party and landed the lead in the "Dem Jeans" video with Chingy feat. Jermaine Dupri.
Bria was also featured on the June 2006 cover of King Magazine with Candice Pillay and Esther Baxter.
Now she's got the "internet goin' nuts" with The Flow Online Magazine.
TFM: You've been the new face in the industry, as of late. How did you get in here and make such an impact so quickly? Because there is no such thing as an "overnight celebrity" in this business, right?
Bria: (Smiles) Well, I'm going to have to correct you because there IS such a thing as an "overnight celebrity", because I've only been doing this for a year. Basically, somebody saw me and thought I was pretty. They plugged me in with the right people who got me to castings and stuff like that. The first casting call I ever went on, I got the "lead girl". Ever since then, I got into a few videos that got me into magazines and covers of magazines. Now, I'm hosting parties.
TFM: Damn! Did it catch you 'off guard'? The instant success?
Bria: It kind of caught me 'off guard' because I know that a lot of girls, really want to do this. They want to be in magazines and they want to be in videos but probably 30% of the girls who want to do it, can't. Because they don't know where to start. I knew that I had the potential, but I didn't know how I was going to get there.
TFM: How did it feel to work with Kanye and Rhymefest on your first video?
Bria: It was a two-day shoot and I really didn't work with Kanye.I worked with Rhymefest more so on the second day, where it was like all about "me and him". But, Rhymefest was a doll. He was so sweet.
TFM: So out of all the videos, Chingy, Twista and the rest, what do you consider to be your best work?
Bria: As far as the way I looked, I think The Clipse feat. Pharrell video, but I didn't get a lot of camera time on that one. You really can't tell but I think that I looked the best in that one. The best work out of all of them? I would have to say the Chingy video, because it actually put me out there as far as people seeing my face and my body.
TFM: What is your measurements?
TFM: What do you consider to be your best physical feature?
Bria: My mouth and my eyes.
TFM: What pet peeves do you have regarding men?
Bria: Oh my! OK...this is not discriminating or anything but when a guy has "jacked-up" teeth...
Bria: I don't like that because I feel that there's SO much that you can do out there nowdays. [With] insurance, no insurance, Western Dental....(laughs) If your teeth are "jacked-up" there's a lot you can do to get them fixed. Now if a guy has braces? I respect that, because your working toward getting your teeth fixed. I personally like guys with braces. I think braces are so cute.
TFM: (Laughing) Like Austin Powers "jacked-up", right?
Bria: Yes, like Austin Powers! (laughs)
TFM: What’s the worst pick-up line that's been tried on you?
Bria: This guy said, "What do you do with ALL that?" And, I looked at him and said, "What do I do with ALL what?" Although, I knew what he was talking about. He looked down at my butt and I cussed him out! I mean, is THAT how you expect to get a girl?
TFM: Was this a recent thing that happened?
Bria: Recent? Yeah, like a month ago.
TFM: Give us one of your "patented" beauty secrets.
Bria: It's really weird but I sleep in my make-up every night. I'm so tired when I get home from the club and stuff, I don't watch the make-up off of my face. I've never had acne. I get a bump "here and there" but my skin is really clear and most of the compliments I get, is on my skin. I do not recommend this! (Laughing)
TFM: Please DO NOT try at home!
Bria: Yeah...please DO NOT try THIS at home! (Laughs)
TFM: What advice would you give to all of those aspiring models out there, who are trying to follow in your footsteps?
Bria: I would definitely tell them to make sure that they keep "the dream" [alive] because it will happen for them eventually, if they stay focused. Don't compromise yourself when you get there, either. Don't end up in a "GAME song". (The Game's "Wouldn't Get Far" feat. Kanye West) Don't end up the "talk" of a rapper's song, basically.
