Mz. Shantel: Sexy in Syracuse
Story and Interview by Matthew Shack
Good girls who look like bad girls are mysteriously attractive.
It's not really about sex essentially. Okay... it truly is about sex, but it isn’t just that alone.
Mz. Shantel Brooks is irresistible, incredible and SO sexy.
Like lodestone to iron; she is ULTRAMAGNETIC!
When Mz. Shantel is not in school studying business technology with graphic design classes, she's planning performances for her singing group, VIP-DOLLS.
Mz. Shantel has been officially discovered by The Flow!
TFM: How did you get introduced into modeling?
Shantel: I actually got started through Barbizon Modeling School when I was 15. This is a classic story. I thought I was going to be 5'9" and 110 lbs, but I grew out of that though. [Laughs] I saw a friend of mine in Blackmen’s Magazine and the rest was history.
TFM: You have a very sexy look. What is your ethnic background?
Shantel: I'm mutli-racial. Black, Cherokee, Romanian, and Caribbean. That’s the short version. [Laughs]
TFM: How old are you and where are you from?
Shantel: I'm 24 and from Syracuse, New York.
TFM: How does does it feel to be our Face Of The Flow for March 2008?
Shantel: It feels good and weird at the same time. I always loved fashion and modeling so I knew I would get somewhere. The fact that I am actually starting to make a name for myself is still very crazy to me.
TFM: Tell us about your plans for the future.
Shantel: I am getting into hosting events and doing more promotional work this year. That is my main goal besides hopefully getting into car shows and doing a lot of import modeling stuff. Also I’m getting into dancing again so I'm go-go dancing, locally and nationwide. Not exotic! [Laughing] I’m going to school and opening my online boutique, this fall. Its a clothing boutique for women in the entertainment industry from singers, models to dancers that want to look good at photo shoots, hosting events, and not have to spend an arm and leg to do so. So yeah, I have my hands full this year.
TFM: What are your measurements, weight and height?
Shantel: 36-28-42, 140lbs, and I’m 5'5".
TFM: What is your most favorite part of your body and why?
Shantel: [Laughs] This is going to sound weird but my hair is. I love my hair, when I was younger I hated it because it was very different and curly. I wanted it to be like every other "black girl", straight and in ponytails. But now, I love that I can do so much to it and I'm actually wishing that my daughter's hair will be exactly like mine. Also my brain, being beautiful is great but you need to make sure you have a mind when the beauty fades.
TFM: Give us one of your patented beauty secrets.
Shantel: My secret would have to be always use cocoa butter. I have dry skin and I have a year and half old daughter so it takes care of the dry skin and also the stretch marks fade using it so much. Also can be used in your hair too while its wet to give some more moisture, but don’t use too much.
TFM: What pet peeves do you have regarding men?
Shantel: Guys who can’t take care of themselves, crybabies, and guys who are smart or dumb. They think and talk all the time like they know everything but they don’t really know anything. Oh and guys who think just because I have a kid that I'm looking for her step-daddy...I'M NOT and ITS NOT CUTE!
TFM: Can a normal guy get with you or does he have to have something big cracking?
Shantel: Both. They don’t have to be a celebrity or superstar but I like guys who have a goal in life and are trying to make it come true. Also have to be a natural hustler like me but in a good way. But has to be "real" even if he is known.... ya dig!
TFM: What is the worst pick-up line ever attempted on you?
Shantel: ALL pick up lines are the worst ever. I don't even remember any of them because as soon as they start to say it, I just ignore them and keep it moving.
TFM: What can a man do to truly win you over?
Shantel: Just be real with me from the jump. Don’t try to impress me . See me as a woman first, not just a model. Also understand that I like to take my time with someone and get to know them first. They should understand that. Also, it doesn’t hurt if he can sing or dance.[Laughing] Cooking? Hmmm... I love home cooking! [Laughing]
TFM: What advice would you give to all of those models out there, who are trying to follow in your footsteps?
Shantel: I would say, "Don't let anyone stop you." If you feel in your heart this is what you are meant to do in life, then do it. Even if you're a single mother or student which I am both, you can still reach for your dreams. Also education is the key! Even if you're not in school, teach yourself and know the basics. It will help you out in the long run.
