A canonization to the exploitation B-movie thrillers of the 70's, that fuses two feature-length segments into one double-feature bill.
In "Death Proof," a psycho named Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell)stalks and kills beautiful women with his car.
In "Planet Terror," a small-town sheriffs' department has to deal with an outbreak of murderous, infected people called "sickos." A gun-legged woman named Cherry (Rose McGowan) and her martial arts-wielding partner (Freddy Rodriguez) take on the zombie army.
The two films will be tied together by make-believe movie trailers.
Also starring, Josh Brolin, Michael Parks, Rosario Dawson, Nicolas Cage and Bruce Willis. Directed by Robert Rodriguez, Eli Roth, Edgar Wright, Rob Zombie, and Quentin Tarantino.
There is a reason why Quentin Tarantino makes the BEST films in the business. It's because he actually gives a s***!
QT is a film historian and a teacher when it comes to movies...and he's not afraid to take chances.
You HEAR that Hollywood? Stop being bitch made!
Make good s***...stop rehashing old scripts..BRING IN NEW BLOOD! (But, I digress.)
Grindhouse is a cool-ass name for a movie...but it ACTUALLY means something.
Per Roget's New Millennium Thesaurus, the word "grind house" is a synonym for...movie theater.
So..go get your "grind on" and go see Grindhouse, at the grind house.
Death Race 2000 (1975)
In the near future, the ultimate sporting event is "the deathrace".
Participants score points for literally "running people over" in their cars, as they race across the country.
The sport has evolved to the point that crazed fans willingly sacrifice themselves to the drivers, as an act of worship.
Starring, David Carradine, Slyvester Stallone, Simone Griffeth, Roberta Collins and Matin Kove. Directed by Paul Bartel.
*To all my friends...remember when y'all use to laugh at my vast collection of 1970's Blaxploitation DVD's? ie, Shaft, Truck Turner, Black Caesar, Cleopatra Jones etc...here's the explanation in two simple words.
Corman is one of the most innovative movie men in cinematic history...he is a proflic producer and director and he took plenty of chances and ridicule for being such.
His films include Grand Theft Auto (sound familiar) ,TNT Jackson, Big Bad Mama and Eat My Dust.
But to me, his legacy features the fact that he personally discovered the finest woman who has ever graced any movie screen...
Oh my god! She is the FINEST, EVER...hands down. Halle? Beyonce?Gabrielle Union? Kerry Washington?
It's Pam Grier, homie.
About three years ago, I spent over $100.00 on Grier/Corman movies ie, The Arena, Big Bird Cage,Women In Cages,The Big Doll House.
Get me someone like Pam? I'll retire from the game...TODAY! (But once again, I digress.)
Grindhouse's first segement "Death Proof," pays homage to"Death Race 2000."
And by the way...didn't QT cast Pam Grier in a movie called"Jackie Brown"?
I have a sneaking suspicion that Quentin Tarantino is a fan of Roger Corman, too.
Great minds; think alike.
Go rent it!
