The Best Man Holiday

The Best Man Holiday (2013)

Fourteen years after writer-director Malcolm D. Lee released his romantic cult classic comedy "The Best Man" back in 1999, the whole gang is back again with a sequel, The Best Man Holiday.

Harper (Taye Diggs) is now successful best-selling writer and a professor at NYU.

His wife, Robin, (Sanaa Lathan) has become a famous chef.  Jordan (Nia Long) is now an Emmy winning TV news executive and is dating a successful white businessman (Eddie Cibrian)

Lance (
Morris Chestnut) is poised to become the NFL’s all-time leading rusher and is still married to Mia (Monica Calhoun), at the same time Julian (Harold Perrineau) runs a private school with Candy (Regina Hall), and Shelby (Melissa De Souza) has become a reality TV star on “The Real Housewives of Westchester.”

Lastly, Terrence Howard, who stole the first movie as "Q", is still on point and now runs a successful branding service while staying at his best at irritating everyone, involved.

With all of the slave films that have been coming out of Hollywood over the last two holiday seasons,
The Best Man Holiday has been the lone bright spot in black cinema and has the potential to go down as the African American version of "It’s a Wonderful Life".

The Best Man Holiday
is a must-see film. Check it out with a date or family member.

The Best Man
(1999)

Harper Stewart (Diggs) is about to make it big.

His first novel,
has been selected by
Oprah's Book Club.

He has a beautiful girlfriend, Robin (
Lathan), and his best friend Lance (Chestnut) is getting married on this weekend.

What could possibly go wrong?... EVERYTHING!

The Best Man
is surprisingly entertaining and definitely is the black version of "The Big Chill". The interaction of all the main characters is something that every person can identify.

One pleasant denominator is the roles played in this movie are all gainfully employed and independent law abiding members of society.

This was and still a much needed and notable break from many common stereotypes in some films, even a decade and a half after its initual release.

The Best Man is a very good movie to buy for Christmas as a gift or to put on the shelf with the rest of the DVD's in your collection.
