The Flow Online was founded
by Roger Hooks, Jr and Matthew Shack, Jr. The Flow Online was
named by Matthew Shack as it related to the ability of a Hip Hop
rapper to deliver rythmic lyrical rhetoric on demand as well as
the movement of activity with the Hip Hop culture.
The Flow Online Magazine came into existence as a solution to
a problem. Matthew Shack, a local night club promoter, found a
niche by providing services to other promoters by using his extensive
email list of night club patrons to promote other promoters events.
He created a modest revenue offering these services. He soon attracted
advertisers, however, that proved to be unsuccessful. What he
found was although, the patrons on his list were happy to receive
the latest news about the hottest parties of the week, they were
not so keen in receiving an unsolicited carpet cleaning or insurance
advertisment. Matthew Shack presented the problem to Roger Hooks
who then suggested sending out the entertainment news along with
the advertisement. From there the concept grew. After several
weeks of development and months of trouble shooting the challenges
of popular email providers, The Flow Online email magazine was
born. Although, the Flow was never intended to be a serious business,
the focus expanded to news that would appeal to a national audience
in an attempt to attract national advertisers. This required the
focus on national urban and Hip Hop entertainment figures to bring
notoriety and credibility to the publication.
The Flow's email list started with the list of 6,000 Hip Hop entertainment
enthusiasts provided by Matthew Shack. The Flow Online Magazine
grew from 6,000 unsolicited subscribers to 120,000 in less than
8 months.
The next phase of the Flow began development in 2003. We began
production in the Flow TV. This show would provide an additional
attraction to the website, providing a compelling Hip Hop show
for urban a Hip Hop enthusiast every world wide. In April of 2005
the first episode was completed and May 1st, The Flow Online 2.0
was launched.
